Reflections For Life
OUR CONFIDENCE IN CHRIST

"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers,
nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
During this difficult period, many people’s sense of optimism has decreased dramatically. How can we have hope and faith in Christ during these trying moments? How did Paul express his confidence in Christ? To be sure (v8) = peithó –to be persuaded. This comes from the root word – pistis – Faith. This means to be persuaded (not just logically) to being absolutely confident in God. So what persuaded Paul to be this confident in Christ?
3 Reasons to have confidence in Christ
God has expressed His Love for us
God’s expressions of love to his people is evident throughout the Bible. One example is through God’s forgiveness of our sins (Micah 7:18). An act of forgiveness for humans often has a selfish motive in that we seek inner healing through the act. It has a psychological benefit to it. However, for God it is simply an act of love as it focuses on what is good for us. God does not get any benefits from forgiving us; we receive all the benefits. If anything, God gave HIS ALL to reconcile us back to him (I John 4:9-10). The Passion Event is a clear and deep demonstration of God’s love for us, and how far Christ will go to fulfill his perfect plan for our lives.
God’s actions in human history
Consistency encourages trust, and God is consistent in his ways. The message of grace is clear and evident throughout the Bible, from the creation of the world to the Passion Event, the formation of the Church, and the continuous work of the Gospel to bring hope to His people. More so, we have seen how throughout history when His people suffered, God brought them through and the Church grew and flourished. Throughout history the Church has faced obstacles, and it was during those times that the hope and light of the Gospel of Christ shone best.
Sometimes our memories are that of a Goldfish. We forget easily the situations we faced and endured. Mostly it is because we take the credit that is not ours. If we remember the situations we faced and we thought we could never make it, but then wisdom was given, or the right people stepped in and helped us. God orchestrates all things in our lives and we when we realize this, we can have hope knowing that He is in control and He will work all things for His perfect plan (Romans 8:28)
Questions for Reflection:
When do you doubt God the most and what do you do during those moments?
What was the most difficult moment in your life and how did Christ use that experience in your life?
How can you express your confidence in Christ and encourage others in the Christian community?
How can you minister to the lost to draw them towards Christ during these times?
We pray that this exercise will strengthen your relationship with the Lord as you draw near with confidence.
