REFLECTIONS FOR LIFE
& Being Gracious
1 John 4:7-10

John writes to encourage the Church to love one another as God is love. He reminds the believers the love they are to demonstrate is a result of being made alive through Christ (verse 9). To be made alive is a result of receiving the Grace of God that leads to our salvation. In other words, love is grace. It is freely given to us by God. There is no separation between love and grace. Our willingness or unwillingness to receive God’s love and grace does not make God any more or less gracious. To be gracious is an act of showing favor and kindness to the undeserving. It is an extension of love from one to another. It is to see the value of individuals regardless of their current conditions. It is easy to judge people based on their current conditions as either favorable or unfavorable, worthy or unworthy.
When we receive Christ, we are made alive, and this means we are made aware of the following;
To be aware of our value in Christ (verse 10)
To be aware of the condition of the world
To be aware of the final results for those in and out of Christ
This sense of awareness makes us look at everything through the eyes of Christ. Being aware makes us to have a sense of urgency to make a difference. It compels us to leave our comfort zones and do things for the good of others. The change of the heart and mind brings out the fruit of the Spirit. To be gracious means;
To display the nature of God in our lives (Verse 8)
To obey the commandment to love
What makes you loose focus of your value in Christ
What things influences how you look at others and their value in your life?
What steps will you take to change areas in your life that need to be transformed by Christ?
We pray that this exercise will strengthen your relationship with the Lord as you draw near with confidence.
