Summary
In our passage today, we see Paul comparing his relationship with the Corinthian Christians, with the relationship of a parent and child. He is reminding them yet again, how much he loves them and cares for them, as a father, as a mentor and teacher.
Even though they fail to understand his teachings, even though they misunderstand his motives and actions, even when they cause him so much pain, he still continues to reach out to them, writing them, sending others to them, making plans to visit them. To build them up and to teach them about the truth of the Gospel, and the life of a believer. This is the very purpose for which God has given leaders and teachers in the church. And this is also the way that discipleship works in the church. We help each other to grow into the full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. And in order to grow spiritually we need to have a humble and teachable heart and we need to listen to God’s Word. I pray that we choose to go before God’s Word each day; giving full authority to God’s Word above all else in our lives. I pray that we have a humble and teachable heart, a good soil, so that we can grow in our faith and each day become more and more like our Lord Jesus Christ.
